CHICAGO - The UIC women's soccer team (2-14-0, 0-6-0 HL) dropped a closely contested home match on Wednesday night against Green Bay (9-5-2, 3-3-0 HL) by a final score of 1-0. The heartbreaking loss serves as the Flames fifth straight one-goal defeat.
"We are getting closer every match from putting together a complete game," said head coach Brian Rigby. "Our defense has proven it has the toughness and durability to compete with any team in the Horizon League. Our chances on offense are there and we will continue fighting until the final horn sounds."
Sophomore Jasmin Carrera nearly scored her fifth goal of the season in the first period as she faced a partially open net from 10 yards out, however her shot attempt sailed wide right by a mere inches. Freshman Emily Wauer had a great opportunity in the second half as her boot just missed the right corner of the goal from the left wing.
Green Bay scored the game's lone goal in the first period at the 9:52 mark as junior Sydney Born capitalized off a corner kick from teammate Chandra Eigenberger.
The Phoenix out-shot UIC, 22-8, in the game and won the shots-on-goal battle, 15-2.
Freshman Kelly Fritz collected 14 saves in the contest and extends her league-leading tally to 101 on the season.
The Flames return to action on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Wright State with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. CT.
