Men's Tennis Heads To Horizon League Championships

CHICAGO- The UIC men's tennis team (5-10, 2-4 HL) prepares for competition at the Horizon League Championship, set to begin on Friday and conclude Sunday. The Flames earned a No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 Valparaiso in the opening round Friday at 2 p.m. (CT) at the University of Michigan Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

UIC earned the No. 5 seed after going 2-4 against conference opponents. The Flames defeated Detroit 5-2 on April 13, and Youngstown State 4-3 on April 19 in their last match of the season.

While competing in singles against Horizon League foes, UIC came away with a 9-27 (.250) record. Isaac Lloveras went 3-3 for the Flames at No. 4. Alan Reifer went 2-3 when he was at No. 2, while Christopher Cole also went 2-3 while in the No. 5 position.

In doubles, UIC went 4-9 (.308) against conference opponents. Lloveras combined with Alexander Raa to collect a perfect 3-0 record while at No. 1.

Valparaiso enters the competition at the No. 4 seed after producing a 3-3 HL record, previously defeating the Flames 7-0 on March 22. The winner of Friday's match will advance to the semi-final round and face No. 1 Green Bay.
