CHICAGO - The men's tennis team will begin the spring 2015 season on Saturday (Jan. 17) as the Flames travel across town to take on DePaul. Competition is set to begin at 2:15 p.m. CT at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness, the official indoor facility for the Blue Demons.
"DePaul is a cross-town rival that will give us a good chance to gauge how much we've improved over the fall," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "Our guys have worked hard and will compete well."
The last time the Flames and DePaul met (Jan. 17, 2014), Carl Hedstrom went undefeated as he downed Adam Reinhart 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 at No. 3 singles. Hedstrom then teamed up with Alexander Raa at the No. 1 doubles position to defeat Filip Dzanko and Jan-Willem Feilzer 6-5(5).
At No. 4 singles, Isaac Lloveras faced Michael Treis, but was unable to come out on top with a final decision of 6-3, 6-2. Eric Pontow competed at No. 5 singles and fell to Tim Corwin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
"We have a tough non-conference schedule that will help us raise our game for the Horizon League," said Neufeld.
The Flames make a quick trip up to Kalamazoo Monday to take on Western Michigan. The match is scheduled to start at 1 pm CT inside West Hills Athletic Club.
