CHICAGO - The UIC women's basketball team (13-7, 3-4 HL) fell 64-45 at home to first-place Green Bay (17-3, 7-0 HL) Saturday night. The Phoenix made 68 percent of their field goals and 4-of-9 attempts from downtown after halftime.
The Phoenix held the Flames to 30 percent shooting (18-of-60) while converting 44 percent (21-of-47) of their field goals. Green Bay drained eight three-pointers and held a 14-5 made free throw advantage.
Green Bay's bench contributed 20 points and the Phoenix had 18 assists on 21 made field goals. UIC outrebounded Green Bay, 40-36, and the Flames have outrebounded their opponent on 17 occasions this season.
"Our defense kept us in the game in the first half but we needed to make more open shots to stay close," said UIC head coach Regina Miller. "Green Bay made their open looks in the second half and we did not. We have another tough test against Cleveland State on Wednesday and it is important to end the homestand with a victory."
Ruvanna Campbell collected her fourth straight double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She owns 15 double-doubles this season and 41 in 55 appearances at UIC. Campbell was 6-of-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from the free throw line.
Terri Bender scored 14 points for her tenth straight double-figure performance. She was 2-of-7 from downtown. Bender also had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Melita Emanuel-Carr was 2-of-6 from three-point land and finished with eight points. Caitlin Garant recorded two blocks and two steals on defense.
The Phoenix jumped out to a 10-2 advantage before the Flames rallied to narrow Green Bay's lead to 17-16 on Campbell's layup with 5:52 left before halftime. Green Bay finished the half on a 9-2 run, including six free throws, to own a 26-18 advantage going into the locker room.
Kendyl Nunn's free throws with 11:59 remaining in the contest trimmed Green Bay's lead to 33-26. Seven points was the closest UIC would get as the Phoenix went on an 11-4 run over the next 3:47. Green Bay's biggest lead came at 57-38 following a 6-0 run, capped by Megan Lukan's free throws with 2:01 on the clock.
UIC concludes its three-game homestand Wednesday night (Feb. 4) against Cleveland State (12-8, 4-3 HL). Tip-off with the Vikings is set for 5 p.m. CT inside the UIC Pavilion.
