GREEN BAY, Wis. - The UIC women's soccer team (5-10-2, 2-4-1 HL) held on to its 1-0 lead after Naomi Rushe scored in the first half to defeat Green Bay (3-12-0, 1-6-0 HL) on Wednesday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The win marked the third-consecutive shutout for the Flames as they have now gone 3-1-1 in their last five games.

"The ladies did a great job tonight," said head coach Brian Rigby. "They were thoughtful with the soccer that we asked them to play and, other than the last 15 minutes of the game, they were very good. (Kelly) Fritz's PK save was brilliant and should be acknowledged. It gave us a chance and the team immediately responded."

"Our women are taking steps in their development and growth and it was great to see them perform tonight and pick up three points on the road."

UIC took 15 shots on the night while Green Bay made 21 attempts with 10 on goal. The eight players who contributed to the Flames' shot total were led by Rushe and Jasmin Carrera with three each, as Rushe (2), Haley Kittle (1), Emily Wauer (1), Rebeca Pallo (1) and Flo Beshiri (1) had their chances reach on target.

The first half of play presented opportunities for both teams as UIC executed seven shots and the Phoenix recorded 10 with half on goal.

Following UIC's first shot on goal in the ninth minute by Kittle, Green Bay registered six shots over a 10-minute span with three resulting in saves. The Flames had the next two attempts, but a foul committed by UIC inside the box in the 36th minute set up the Phoenix with a penalty kick that was taken by Katie Schulz and stopped with a big-time save from Kelly Fritz.

Two minutes later, Rushe received the ball from Carrera and fired off a shot that beat the keeper on the left side for her third goal of the season and first career game-winner. Green Bay had two more chances before the Flames took over and had an attempt sent wide by Carrera and another saved on a shot from Wauer.

The game progressed in the same manner into the second half with eight shots for UIC and 11 for Green Bay, while the first 15 minutes back in action featured four shots on each side that came out of range.

After the Phoenix had a header attempt saved, the Flames were awarded with three-consecutive corner kicks beginning in the 71st minute that allowed Rushe to get off a shot that was stopped. Pallo and Beshiri had the next chances for UIC as both of their chances came as back-to-back saves 30 seconds apart.

The final shots of the game were in favor of Green Bay as all four of its attempts were saved to bring its total on the night to 10 shots on goal.

Fritz recorded her fifth shutout of the year in the full 90 minutes of play to improve to a 1.63 goals-against-average. She additionally made 10 stops on the night to match a season high set against Saint Louis (Aug. 28) and bring her total to 86 saves.

The Flames will stay on the road for their next match as they head to Youngstown, Ohio, for a 6 p.m. CT matchup on Saturday against Youngstown State at Farmers National Bank Field.
