CHICAGO -- UIC honored its two graduating seniors – Stephenee Yancy and Tracy Friel - and it welcome back dozens of alumni to the Flames Athletic Center to close the 2015 regular season. Youngstown State was able to escape gym with a 3-0 win over the Flames (29-27, 25-14, 25-19).
"Both Stephenee and Tracy have been an integral part of our program for a long time," said UIC head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley. "They have shown tremendous skill on the floor and leadership, as well. They were two of our team captains and that speaks to how highly they are thought of by their teammates. I cannot thank them enough for leaving this program in better shape than when they arrived."
The match featured 25 ties and seven lead changes with the majority coming in the first set. The frame was tied 16 times while the advantage changed hands seven times.
Yancy slammed down a match-high 14 kills in her final collegiate contest, while Friel was one of three Flames to notch double-digit digs, finishing with 10. She also served one of the team's five aces in the contest.
UIC libero Bridget Powell led her team with 14 digs Saturday, while setter Nicole Johnson handed out 31 assists.
During the intermission, the dozens of loyal UIC alums were introduced to the large crowd on hand.
"Our alum are a very special part of our program," said Schumacher-Cawley. "For them to be engaged and willing to come back and show their support on a regular basis is truly special. I want to thank them all from the bottom of my heart for everything they do for all of us."
The Flames finished the season with 12 wins, including five in Horizon League play.
