MILWAUKEE - The UIC men's tennis team (2-6) competed against Marquette (4-4) Sunday afternoon and the Flames fell to the Golden Eagles, 5-2, at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
"In singles I was especially pleased with Mitch Granger," said UIC head coach Hans Neufeld. "After losing a heartbreaker yesterday he came back and won in three sets. Louis Theodor had an outstanding weekend overall with two three-set wins. He proved to be our best player this weekend."
Mitch Granger competed against Kristiyan Trukov in the No. 6 singles spot and defeated him in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Louis Theodor collected the second win of the night for UIC against the Andre Romanello in the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6.
"After losing the doubles point I was pleased to see the resolve the team had in our singles matches," said Neufeld. "Across the board we competed extremely well."
In doubles, Maurizio Feoli and Carl Hedstrom competed against Daniel Fernandez and Vukasin Teofanovic and fell 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Theodor and Christopher Cole went up against Nick Dykema and Kristiyan Trukov at No. 2 and were defeated by a score of 6-1.
"We have work ahead of us in doubles, but we look forward to our upcoming match against IPFW," said Neufeld.
The Flames return to action Saturday (Feb. 21) when they host IPFW at the Hinsdale Racquet Club.
