YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The UIC track & field completed Day One of competition at the Horizon League Indoor Championships inside the Watson and Tressel Training Site. The men's team totaled 31 points for third place and the women have 25 points in fifth place.
The day was highlighted by senior Tess Ehrhardt taking first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:18.86. Ehrhardt led the race start to finish.
The win marks Ehrhardt's second career Horizon League indoor title as her other came last year in the 3000-meter. Lauren Lindholm finished fifth in the 5000-meter with a personal best time of 17:47.08.
In the field events, Ariel Gibbs posted a personal best leap of 5.58 meters in the long jump for third place. LaTreesha Washington landed a final attempt of 3.36 meters for fifth place in the pole vault.
In the men's long jump, UIC finished 2-3-4 with Jordan Banks taking second followed by Seyi Ogunleye and Dan Hinspeter. Banks recorded a personal best jump of 6.94 meters, Ogunleye finished with a jump of 6.89 meters and Hinspeter also landed a personal record leap with a final attempt of 6.87 meters.
Senior Matt Kubik claimed fourth place in the pole vault with a final height of 4.45 meters.
The final day of the Horizon League Championships begins Sunday at 8 a.m. CT.
