TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The UIC track and field teams rewrote the program's record books this weekend, breaking five school records and establishing 11 new all-time top-10 performances at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The two-day meet, hosted by Indiana State University on Saturday and Sunday, saw the Flames' men's squad finish eighth out of 10 teams, while the women's team placed ninth overall.

UIC was fueled by a wave of historic individual performances, including three new freshman records. Gabriel Fiedorow set a new freshman standard in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.29 seconds. On the women's side, Carissa Uy set a freshman record in the triple jump with a mark of 11.60 meters, a distance that earned her a seventh-place finish at the meet and ranks No. 4 all-time in UIC history.

The Flames also saw monumental performances in the mid-distance events. Praise Oyebanji shattered the school record in the women's 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:08.79. In the men's 1500-meter run, Theodore Cunningham clocked a school-record time of 3:48.47, later placing sixth in the event finals with a time of 3:51.84.

Emanuel Murphy added his name to the record-setting weekend by establishing a new UIC benchmark in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 47.76 seconds. Murphy went on to secure a seventh-place finish in the conference finals with a time of 48.29 seconds.

Other top performances for the women included Korima Gonzalez, who placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.76, cementing herself at No. 4 on the UIC all-time list. Hannah Oluwatomi Oloro claimed seventh place in the high jump, clearing 1.65 meters.

For the men, Zachary Close secured a sixth-place finish in the grueling 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in 30:49.04. In total, UIC athletes recorded 11 new outdoor personal bests over the course of the championships.

"Proud of our team's effort throughout this Outdoor Championship weekend as we collectively had one of our best team performances in school history," UIC head coach Paul Zavala said. "We look forward to continue building on our program's momentum from this season and take the next step forward in our competitiveness."
