ELMHURST - The UIC men's tennis team (2-4) took on Elmhurst College (0-1) Friday afternoon and collected its second win of the season. The Flames defeated the Blue Jays, 7-0, inside Courts Plus.
In the No. 1 Singles spot, Isaac Lloveras defeated Luke Tanaka, 7-6, (3-4), 6-0. UIC’s Christopher Cole beat Chris Harrison in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6.
“Isaac Lloveras and Mitch Granger set the tone early in doubles with a commanding 6-1 win at No.2 doubles,” said head coach Hans Neufeld. “Carl Hedstrom and Maurizio Feoli followed suit at No.1 doubles, followed by Nate Campanile and Christopher Cole at No.3."
Louis Theodor defeated Quinn Jennings 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. In the No.4 spot, Carl Hedstrom defeated Alex Abbuhl, 6-2, 6-0. In the No.5 and No. 6 spots Maurizio Feoli and Mitch Granger defeated their opponents in straight sets.
Maurizio Feoli and Carl Hedstrom teamed up in the No.1 doubles spot and defeated Luke Tanaka and Chris Harrison, 6-3. The Flames' Isaac Lloveras and Mitch Granger matched-up against Ricardo Franco and Matt Kulma and won 6-1. In the No. 3 spot, Nate Campanile and Christopher Cole defeated Alex Abbuhl and Quinn Jennings, 6-3.
"We look to build upon this win as we head into a week of practice preparing for Southern Illinois and Marquette next weekend," said Neufeld.
The Flames will play an intrasquad Blue vs. White scrimmage on Saturday. UIC welcomes Southern Illinois to the Hinsdale Racquet Club on Feb. 14 and then makes a quick trip to Milwaukee to take on Marquette on Feb. 15.
