Horizon League Championship Bracket

CHICAGO -- The No. 5 UIC Men's Tennis team (6-12, 2-4 HL) travels to West Lafayette, Ind. this weekend to compete in the 2015 Horizon League Championship hosted by Purdue University. The Flames take on No. 4 Youngstown State (8-12, 4-2 HL) in the first round on Friday (April 24) at the Schwartz Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT.

The winner of Friday's match will advance to the semifinal round Saturday and face No. 1 Green Bay. The Horizon League championship match is scheduled for Sunday (April 26) at 10 am CT. 

UIC earned the No. 5 seed after going 2-4 against conference opponents. The Flames defeated Wright State on March 29 (4-3) and Detroit on April 11 (5-2).

The Flames competed against Youngstown State on April 18 and fell by a 6-1 score. The doubles teams of Christopher Cole/Mitch Granger (6-4) and Eric Pontow/Maurizio Feoli (6-4) defeated their opponents at the bottom two doubles positions. Cole (No. 2) and Max Cederkall (No. 6) forced their singles matches into three sets but could not secure the victories.  

Carl Hedstrom currently leads the Flames with nine victories in dual play, closely followed by teammates Mitch Granger and Louis Theodor (8). Hedstrom also tops the Flames with four victories against conference opponents. In doubles competition, Cole/Granger and Hedstrom/Isaac Lloveras are tied for the team lead with four victories. 

At the 2014 Horizon League Championship, the Flames took on Valparaiso in the first round and fell 4-3. In dual play, Lloveras (6-2, 6-1) and Feoli (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) defeated their respective opponents at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Cole also beat his opponent, 7-6, 6-4, to notch UIC's third win in singles competition.
