CHICAGO - The UIC men's tennis team (5-9, 1-1 HL) took on Green Bay (12-7, 2-0 HL) Friday afternoon inside XS Tennis. The Flames fell to the Phoenix by a 5-2 score.
"We did not match their intensity in doubles play," said UIC head coach Hans Neufeld. "The singles play intensity by Louis Theodor, Mitch Granger and Maurizio Feoli is what we need going forward."
The Flames collected two victories in singles play. Louis Theodor took on opponent Howard Scott in the No. 3 position and defeated him 6-4, 2-6, 11-9. Mitch Granger collected UIC's second victory of the day defeating opponent Joshua Schramm in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) at the No. 5 spot.
Theodor won his second consecutive match and leads the Flames with eight victories, including three at the third singles spot. Granger pushed his victory total to seven on the season, which ranks second on the squad.
Maurizio Feoli played a competitive match at the No. 6 position as he dropped tight decisions in the second and third sets. Joey Leto ultimately came out on top by a score of 6-7, 6-4, 11-9.
The Flames return to action April 11 as they take on Detroit at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts. Competition is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
