June 17, 2015 INDIANAPOLIS - The Horizon League announced on Wednesday that eight UIC student-athletes have earned Academic All-League recognition for the 2015 spring semester. Softball led all teams with three honors, followed by men's outdoor track and field with two and individual recognition for women's tennis, baseball and women's golf.
Laura Swan,
Elaine Heflin and
Erica Hampton led all teams with three nominees for softball, which was the second highest total of student-athletes from an institution on the softball All-Academic team. The accolades for Swan, Heflin and Hampton are all the first of their careers.
Men's outdoor track and field was represented by
Christian Saporiti and
Kyle Hauser, with Saporiti and Hauser each picking up first career honors.
Keti Mebuke was also honored for the first time in her career with one of six spots on the women's tennis team.
Tyler Detmer was awarded with his second-consecutive All-Academic selection for the baseball team.
Kayla Stueland from women's golf additionally picked up the second accolade of her career following placement on the team as a sophomore. Of all 90 student-athletes honored in the Horizon League, Stueland was just one of five to maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
