Each sport will be featured over eight weeks as we preview the upcoming year in UIC Athletics. In this installment of 'Top 25 Flames for 2015-16', we will look at women's soccer goalkeeper
Kelly Fritz. As a freshman, Fritz was voted 2014 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year as she ranked 14th in the nation in saves (118) and 11th in saves per game (6.94).
The honors did not stop there, as Fritz also collected All-League First Team and All-Freshman Team accolades. Fritz, who only allowed 1.98 goals per game, played in 17 matches and recorded three shutouts. She led the Horizon League in saves for the entire season before finishing with 118 total stops.
Fritz collected double-digit saves on five occasions, including two over the last three games of the season. Her goals against average over the final eight contests was a stellar 0.99. She stopped shots at an impressive .907 clip during that span.
Fritz averaged 8.88 saves per contest against conference opponents and 6.94 saves per contest overall. She saved a career-high 16 shots against Valparaiso and 11 against Western Michigan. Her three shutouts came against IUPUI, Loyola and Youngstown State.
