CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (5-7-2, 3-2-0 HL) will be back at Flames Field for the first time in over two weeks Saturday when it hosts Northern Kentucky (8-5-0, 4-1-0 HL) at 7 p.m. CT. The first 150 UIC student in attendance with a valid I-card will receive a free Kicking Cancer t-shirt in support of breast cancer awareness.
Last Saturday (Oct. 8), the Flames fought back from a 1-0 deficit to score two goals from
Naomi Rushe and
Rebeca Pallo for the 2-1 victory over Cleveland State. It marked the first road win of the season as UIC has now won four of its last five games.
Pallo was named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after capturing her fifth game-winning goal of the season to rank fifth nationally. The goal additionally marked her fourth in the last five games.
The Flames have not seen a better offensive output in their three years as a program with the team scoring 18 goals and adding 16 assists. Pallo has been the top goal scorer with six tallies, while
Olivia Everin and
Jasmin Carrera own the most assists with four each. Of the 174 shot attempts,
Emily Wauer (31), Pallo (29) and Everin (20) have had the best turnout combining for more than half of the team's 80 shots on goal with 44.
Kelly Fritz has been the goalkeeper of choice in the last four games, during which time she has made 13 saves and garnered a 0.50 goals-against-average. On the season, she has made 28 stops and garnered two shutouts while allowing a mere six goals for a 0.93 GAA, with a 0.50 GAA against conference opponents.
Saturday's match will mark just the second ever meeting between UIC and Northern Kentucky after the Norse came away with a 2-0 win on their home turf last season.
Northern Kentucky heads to Chicago having won its last three games and six of its last seven with the most recent victories coming all against Horizon League opponents Oakland, 2-1, Cleveland State, 1-0, and Youngstown State, 3-2.
The Norse have produced 18 goals scored primarily by Jessica Frey (5), Macy Hamblin (4) and Katelyn Newton (4), with 12 of the team's 19 assists added by Hamblin (4), Ally Perkins (4) and Sami Rutkowski (4). A total of 179 shots have been taken with Hamblin (41) and Frey (37) dominating the field as they additionally own a combined 40 shots on goal.
Emily Lohmann (1.01 GAA) has played nearly 900 minutes in goal for Northern Kentucky and has acquired four shutouts and 36 saves in the process. Brooke Schocker (0.66 GAA) and Kelly Neumann (0.00 GAA) have additionally earned minutes while making up 11 saves.
