CHICAGO – UIC junior
Jose Fuentes has been named the Horizon League Co-Offensive Player of the Week for Oct. 17-23, the conference office announced on Monday. It is Fuentes' second weekly honor of the season and the third of his career.
Â
The Flames captured a 1-0 shutout victory over Valparaiso on Saturday (Oct. 22) at Flames Field for their third-consecutive clean sheet against the Crusaders. The win was UIC's fifth shutout of the season and fourth against a conference opponent as it moved the team into a tie for second place in the League standings.
Â
Fuentes was the one to find the back of the net in the one-goal decision with the assistance of
Oscar Rivero as he scored for the fifth time this year, third in Horizon League play, with his second game-winner. He also made up two of the Flames' four total shots on goal in the game and contributed four shots to the team's total of 22.
Â
The Chicago, Ill., native has been an offensive threat for UIC this season as he has tallied the second-most points (12), goals (5), assists (2) and shots on goal (17), and third-most shots (33). In conference games alone, he has three goals and one assist and has put nearly half of his 21 shots on goal with 10.
Â
The Flames will close out their regular-season home slate Saturday when they host Belmont at Flames Field at 7 p.m. CT for Senior Night.
