UIC to Cap Regular Season with Detroit Mercy

Flames sit in tie for final two in Horizon League Tournament

The UIC women's soccer team (6-9-2, 4-4-0 HL) will brings its regular season to a close Friday night when it hosts Detroit Mercy (9-6-2, 5-1-2 HL) at Flames Field at 7 p.m. CT. Prior to the match, the Flames will honor Jasmin Carrera, Cecilia Magos and Kendall Wilde in a Senior Day ceremony.
 
The program's first-ever berth into the postseason is on the line as UIC currently sits in a tie with Valparaiso and Oakland for the final two spots in the Horizon League Tournament. The Flames improved their chances after picking up a 1-0 win on the road at Wright State last weekend (Oct. 22) for their third conference shutout of the season. Jasmin Carrera scored the game-winner with her first goal of the year.
 
Rebeca Pallo leads the 10 goal scorers this season as she owns six of the team's 20 goals, with three coming against League opponents. A majority of the 18 assists have been contributed by Emily Wauer, Carrera and Olivia Everin with four each. Pallo (34) and Wauer (33) sit at the top with the most shots as they have made up a combined 36 shots on goal with at least half of their attempts reaching on goal.
 
Kelly Fritz has played 850 minutes this season and made 42 saves while garnering three shutouts and a 1.27 goals-against-average. Three of her clean sheets have come in Horizon League play, when she has made 27 stops and taken a 1.14 GAA.
 
UIC has gone 1-1-0 in its regular season finales at Flames Field, while it has yet to defeat Detroit Mercy in the all-time series as it is 0-2-0. Last season, the Titans took a 2-0 win on their home turf while it won in overtime the year prior.
 
Detroit Mercy holds place at third in the conference standings as it has taken wins over Valparaiso, Youngstown State, Green Bay, Cleveland State and Oakland. In its most recent match, it took a 1-1 draw with Northern Kentucky.
 
Anna Mindling (8) and Phylisha Drayton (5) have scored more than half of the Titans' 23 goals, while Drayton (3) and Rachel DeLuca (3) have put up the most against conference opponents. Carley Rice (4) and DeLuca (3) have aided in the scoring effort with their assists. Nine players have reached double digits in their shot attempts with Drayton (39) and Mindling (32) leading the way as they have a combined 45 shots on goal.
 
Marina Manzo has started all but one game and owns a 1.08 GAA, four shutouts and 70 saves, which is the fourth most in the Horizon League. Against conference opponents, she has made 42 stops and allowed only five goals for a 0.58 GAA.
