Volleyball Defeated at Green Bay

Flames fall 3-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The UIC women's volleyball team took a 3-0 (14-25, 20-25, 15-25) loss Saturday afternoon in Green Bay.

Graduate transfer Kelsie Groot led the Flames' offense, totaling 10 kills. Senior Alyssa Ehrhardt registered six terminations, while junior Kaylin Powell brought in five.

Defensively, redshirt junior Nicole Johnson dug out six, and senior Kara Johnson, sophomore Gaia Gbola, Groot and Ehrhardt recorded five digs apiece.

UIC trailed Green Bay by one, 14-13, to start of game one before Green Bay put together nine unanswered points to extend its lead to 10, 23-13. A kill from Witt put a stop to the Phoenix run, but Green Bay went on to take set one, 25-14.

The Flames were facing a 20-12 hole in game two, but a pair of Green Bay errors and kills from Johnson and Groot put UIC within four, 20-16. Green Bay came back and scored three more points, 23-16, before a service error put a stop to the streak. Both teams recorded kills to bring the score to 24-17, when UIC struck again with three straight, 24-20. A kill from Green Bay's Maddie Yoss closed out set two, 25-20.

The Green Bay offense proved to be the dominant factor in game three, giving the Phoenix a 20-13 lead late. The Flames were able to chip in two more points off of Green Bay errors before the Phoenix captured set three, 25-15.

UIC will be on the road next weekend facing Valparaiso (Nov. 4) and Wright State (Nov. 5).
