CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (4-7-2, 2-2-0 HL) will make the trek to Ohio this weekend for its second-to-last road match Saturday against Horizon League foe Cleveland State (4-8-0, 1-3-0 HL) at 6 p.m. CT at Krenzler Field.
The Flames had come away with three-straight wins to set a program record but could not extend it to four as they were edged by Oakland, 1-0, (Oct. 1). UIC outshot its opponent for the fourth-straight game with an 11-6 margin, which also marked the third-consecutive match the defense has held the opposition to less than 10 attempts.
This season, the Flames have already surpassed the program's season-best marks in goals and assists with 16 each, and are on pace to set new records in shots and shots on goal with current totals of 165 and 77, respectively.
Eight players have contributed to the goal total, with
Rebeca Pallo leading the way with five, as
Olivia Everin and
Jasmin Carrera have put up the most assists with four each. A total of seven have reached double figures in their shot attempts, led by
Emily Wauer (30) and Pallo (27), with Wauer (18), Pallo (13) and Everin (11) earning the most shots on goal.
UIC has been narrowly matched with its opponents in conference play, getting five goals to their six and outshooting them by a 51-45 margin.
Kelly Fritz has earned the last three starts while she has played 489 total minutes this season to acquire a 0.92 goals-against-average with 21 saves. In her last three games, she has posted a 0.33 GAA with just one goal allowed.
The Flames and the Vikings are split in the all-time series with a 1-1-0 record after UIC came away with the 2-0 victory last season at home.
Cleveland State has been shut out in its last two games against Horizon League foes Wright State, 2-0, and Northern Kentucky, 1-0. The team owns one conference win over Oakland and picked up non-conference victories earlier in the year against Canisius, Niagara and St. Bonaventure.
Kaila Sargema has guided the offense this season with four of the team's 12 goals and has put up a team-best 25 shots with 11 on goal. Aliani Lorenzo has additionally contributed three goals and is one of three other players to have more than 10 shots on the year.
Jamie Daniels has played all but 12 minutes in goal this season and has made the second-most saves in the conference with 66. With three shutouts on her plate, she has maintained a 1.60 goals-against-average.
