Men's Tennis Defeats South Dakota State, 4-3

TULSA, Okla. - The UIC men's tennis team (7-6) picked up its fourth straight victory Saturday night as the Flames defeated SDSU (10-7) the Philcrest Hills Tennis Club, 4-3. UIC won three singles matches and earned the decisive doubles point.

"We had good energy in doubles giving us the lead," said head coach Hans Neufeld. "Max Cederkall, Marcelo Dib and Christopher Cole came through with solid performances."

Cole made quick work of his singles opponent and won in straight sets at the No. 2 position (6-2, 7-5). Dib picked up his second consecutive victory at No. 4 singles as he was victorious in straight sets (7-5, 6-3).

Cederkall collected his third straight singles win after defeating his opponent by a 6-1, 6-3 score in the No. 6 slot. Cole, Dib and Cederkall are each tied for the team lead with seven dual play victories.

Duo Carl Hedstrom and Nate Campanile tied UIC in doubles competition with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot. Dib and Cederkall then secured the doubles point for the Flames with a 6-3 victory at the third position.

Mitch Granger and Cole competed in the No. 1 spot, 4-4, before leaving the match unfinished.

UIC resumes play tomorrow morning when they face Oral Roberts at 9:00 a.m. (CT) at the Philcrest Hills Tennis Club.
