CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (0-0-2) will close out a three-game homestand this weekend when it hosts Drake (1-0-0) and New Mexico State (0-2-0) at Flames Field. The Flames take on the Bulldogs Friday night at 7 p.m. CT prior to facing the Aggies Sunday at noon.
UIC is returning from a 0-0-2 output during opening weekend after it endured two double overtime 0-0 draws against Northern Illinois (Aug. 19) and Belmont (Aug. 21). The Flames' two shutouts places them as one of 43 teams in the nation to reach the feat.
Through the two games combined so far, UIC has attempted 27 shots, a number that ranks second in the Horizon League, and had 15 reach on goal. While 10 Flames have contributed to the total,
Emily Wauer leads all players and the conference with 10 attempts and seven on goal after she set the single-game program record for shots (7) and shots on goal (6) against NIU.
Annie DiCanio has played all 220 minutes in goal and has made 10 saves, tied for second among Horizon League goalkeepers. She is additionally one of 21 nationwide goalkeepers to already possess two clean sheets.
This weekend's opponents will be another unfamiliar pair for UIC as it will be the first-ever meetings with the foes.
Drake heads to Chicago after taking a 1-0 season-opening win against North Dakota State last Friday (Aug. 19). Alex Freeman picked up the game-winner for the Bulldogs with Kasey Hurt adding the assist. Drake totaled 10 shots to NDSU's nine, as Brooke Dennis and Haley Morris shared the shutout and contributed one save apiece.
New Mexico State is off to a 0-2-0 start after suffering a 5-0 loss to UTEP (Aug. 19) and a 1-0 loss to Northern Iowa (Aug. 22). The Aggies have put up 18 shots with 10 on goal, led by Audriana Chavez with five attempts. Ashley Martin and Raeann Garcia have split time in goal, coming up with a combined seven saves. The team will be faced with Valparaiso on Friday before tangling with the Flames.
