UIC to Tangle with Youngstown State Saturday Night

Flames to play first home Horizon League game of the season at 7 p.m. CT

The UIC women's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-1-0 HL) will open its Horizon League home schedule Saturday night when Youngstown State (2-6-1, 0-1-0 HL) comes to town for a 7 p.m. CT matchup at Flames Field. The night will additionally serve as the program's first alumni and friends event.
 
The Flames remain at home after picking up a dominating 6-1 win over Chicago State last Sunday (Sept. 18) as they broke program records for goals (6), shots (39) and shots on goal (19) in a game. Emily Valentine, Rebeca Pallo, Alexis Jakuszewski, Tamae Douglas, Olivia Everin and Naomi Rushe all scored for UIC, with Jakuszewski, Valentine and Jasmin Carrera (2) adding assists. Tara Khayam garnered her first collegiate win after making three saves.
 
More than halfway through the season, the Flames rank third in the Horizon League in shots (124) and goals (12), and second in assists (12). Pallo sits atop the team with three goals, which ranks in the top 10 in the conference, and 21 shots. Emily Wauer has additionally been a key contributor for UIC with two goals, two assists, 18 shots and a team-leading 14 shots on goal. Of the helpers on the year, Everin and Carrera each own the top mark of three.
 
The Flames have mixed it up with their goalkeeper selections this season. Annie DiCanio (2.37 GAA) owns the most starts with six, followed by Kelly Fritz (1.65 GAA) with six and Khayam (0.59 GAA) with one. The trio has combined for 49 saves and a .710 save percentage led by DiCanio with 27 stops.
 
UIC and Youngstown State are evenly split in its series as each team has one win. The Flames came out on top in 2014 at home while the Penguins picked up the 2-1 win last season.
 
Youngstown State heads into the weekend on a four-game losing streak after falling to St. Bonaventure, Xavier, Oakland and Cincinnati. Its two wins on the year came earlier in the season against Robert Morris and Longwood.
 
The Penguins offense has produced 11 goals, 10 assists and 93 shots so far. Ernestina Abambila has put up top numbers for the team as she holds five goals, five assists, 15 points and 23 shots, nine of which have been on goal. Marissa Martin has also achieved a team-leading 11 shots on goal off her 17 attempts.
 
Katie Montgomery has controlled the goal for all but 55 minutes on the year. She owns one shutout and has made a League-leading 54 saves while possessing a 2.61 goals-against-average.
