CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (4-6-2, 2-1-0 HL) hits the road for its next two matches beginning with a Saturday night matchup against Oakland (4-7-1, 1-2-0 HL) in Rochester, Mich. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT at the Oakland Soccer Field.
The Flames enter into competition on a three-game win streak after capturing its first consecutive Horizon League win and shutout Wednesday (Sept. 28) against Green Bay in a 2-0 final at Flames Field.
Rebeca Pallo and
Olivia Everin scored, with
Emily Wauer and
Jasmin Carrera earning assists.
Kelly Fritz picked up her second-straight shutout in goal after making just two stops.
UIC is positioned in the top three in the Horizon League in shots (154), goals (16) and assists (16). Wauer (29) and Pallo (25) have led the group of six who own 10 or more shots, with Wauer (17), Pallo (13) and Everin (10) combining for 40 shots on goal. Pallo has racked up a program-best five goals on the year for a team-best 11 points, as Everin and Carrera have each contributed the most assists with four each.
Fritz has earned the start in the last two games and owns a 0.90 goals-against-average on the year in 398 minutes while she has made 19 saves for a .826 save percentage. With
Annie DiCanio and
Tara Khayam in the rotation, the Flames have made 53 saves and have posted a team 1.61 goals-against-average.
UIC is looking for its first win against the Golden Grizzlies as it is 0-1-1 in the all-time series after taking a 0-0 double overtime tie last season. Both games have been close as the loss in 2014 was decided by one goal.
Oakland hosts the Flames after dropping its last three matches to Central Michigan, Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky, while its wins on the year have come against Saginaw Valley, Bowling Green, Chicago State and Youngstown State.
A total of 14 goals have been scored the Golden Grizzlies this season, with the Horizon League's second-highest total of seven from Sydnye Gagner, as they have come together for 14 assists led by Cecilie Dokka (4) and Vlad Gurovski (4). Alice Palmer has taken a conference-high 37 shots with just 11 reaching target, while Gagner (23), Dokka (22) and Lauren Bos (10) follow.
Allison Holland has played the most minutes in goal for Oakland this season, accumulating 47 saves, two shutouts and a 1.19 goals-against-average.
