Kyle Hauser earned Horizon League Runner of the Week honors for the period of August 29 – Sept. 5 following competition in the season opening UIC Flames/Flyers Challenge this past weekend in Romeoville, Ill. It is his third career Runner of the Week award.
Hauser ran a personal-best time of 19:00 in the 6K event, shattering his previous mark by 22 seconds. The Palos Heights, Ill. native led all 74 runners in the race from beginning to end and crossed the finish line more than 15 seconds faster than the next competitor.
"I'm happy for Kyle that he was recognized," head coach
Jim Knoedel said. "He busted his tail this summer and is intent on being the best in the Horizon League. The season opening race showed he is on pace to achieving his goal."
The four-year runner has been named to the Horizon All-League First Team in back-to-back years (2014 and 2015) and has captured first place in 15 different races, both during indoor and outdoor competition.
The Flames return to the starting line on Friday, Sept. 9 for the Illinois State Invitational in Normal, Ill. Race time is set for 4:30 p.m. CT.
