EVANSTON, Ill. – The UIC women's tennis team concluded play at the Wildcat Invite on Sunday, wrapping up the three-day tournament with eight singles victories and seven doubles victories.
Amelia Guevremont was champion of the Green Flight, defeating Lewis's Oana Carmen Trus (6-2, 6-2) in her first match, Leslie Foe of Marquette (6-3, 6-2) in the semi-final and Pitt's Natsumi Okamoto (7-5, 6-0) in the championship.
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon also competed in the Green Flight, besting her first opponent, Chicago State's Leshia Gadacz, 6-3, 6-1. Rodriguez Diaz de Leon fell to Guevremont's championship opponent Okamoto, 6-3, 6-1, and then went on to win the northeast side of the bracket with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Foe.
Rachel LeComber competed in the Purple Flight, dropping first match before defeating Andrea Amortegui from Marquette 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in her second. LeComber fell to Northwestern's Caroline Pozo in the championship on the west side of the bracket, 6-3, 6-4.
Georgie Sanders took away a straight-set win in her first match in the Black Flight, 6-4, 6-4, against DePaul's Marija Jovicic, before dropping her next two.
In the Yellow Flight,
Viktoria Seifert dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision versus Victoria Robertson of Utah to move on to the west side of the bracket, where she defeated Montana's Bianca Bostrom 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Stefana Vasic competed in the Singles Round Robin, where she won all three of her matches, starting with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Milica Panic of Montana. Vasic then took down Alana Andrews from Chicago State (6-2, 6-2) and Notre Dame's Hayden Siegfried (6-2, 6-0).
Bianca Zuzu and
Lejla Colic competed in the Orange and Gray Flights, respectively, and were bested by their opponents.
Colic and Sanders teamed up in Maroon Doubles, and defeated Sedi Jacobs and Isabel Iglesias from Kentucky 6-3.
Seifert and Vasic were victorious in their first match in Garnet Doubles with a 6-4 against Utah's Alexia Petrovic and Robertson. The pair grabbed another doubles win for the Flames against Cat Orfanos and Nathalie Joanlanne from Montana, 6-1.
LeComber and Rodriguez Diaz de Leon were also contenders in Garnet Doubles, taking the consolation side of the bracket. The tandem's first victory was a 6-3 win over Gadacz and Andjela Dejanovic from Chicago State. Their second victory came against Notre Dame's Ally Bojczuk and Rachel Chong, 6-4, and the duo bested Petrovic and Robertson in the consolation championship, 6-3.
Zuzu and Guevremont brought in a 6-3 win against Chicago State's Lorea Gamboa and Andrews win in the Doubles Round Robin to round out the tournament.
The Flames will take a brief break from action before the ITA Midwest Regionals on Oct.12-15.
