Flames Take 3-0 Loss at Home Versus Oakland

Costly errors plague UIC

CHICAGO – The UIC women's volleyball team (13-7, 4-3 HL) took a 3-0 (22-25, 12-25, 24-26) loss to Horizon League-leading Oakland (11-9, 6-2 HL) on Friday evening in the Flames Athletic Center.

Match Highlights
  • Set one was a close battle at the start, until the Golden Grizzlies pulled out to a 23-18 lead late.
  • The Flames had a late three-point surge that featured terminations from Kyisha Hunt and Manuela Conte to draw within two, 24-22, before the Oakland offense capped the first set.
  • 13 errors ailed the Flames in set two, as Oakland took it 25-12 to go up 2-0 in the match.
  • The tides seemed to have turned at the beginning of game three, with the Flames up 16-10, but Oakland took five of the next six to come within two, 17-15.
  • The Golden Grizzlies went on to take five of the next seven to grab their first lead of the night, 20-19.
  • From that point, the score was tied five times, as the two teams battled for the lead. After tying the match at 24 and needing two to win, Oakland completed the sweep, 26-24, off a UIC error and service ace.   
Facts and Figures
  • The Flames spread the ball evenly amongst the offense, with Hunt, Conte and Alexandria Hicks recording eight kills.
  • Conte also paced the defense with 11 digs.
  • Carla Salvato notched 10 digs in the libero position, while Alexandra Drosopoulou dug out five. Drosopoulou also recorded five kills on offense.
  • The Flames were held to a mere .040 (35k-30e-125a) hitting percentage, their lowest mark of the season.  
  • Oakland had an astounding 18 total team blocks, compared to the Flames' six.
