ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
Amelia Guevremont, Rachel LeComber and
Georgie Sanders of the UIC women's tennis team represented the Flames this weekend at the ITA Regional Championships presented by Oracle. The three Flames competed in the Singles Qualifying Draw, while Sanders and LeComber came together to compete in the Doubles Main Draw.
Guevremont collected wins against all three of her opponents in the Singles Qualifying Draw, which qualified her to compete in the Singles Main Draw. Her first victory came against fellow Horizon League competitor Daria Artamonova from Oakland, a straight-set 6-4,6-0 decision.
Guevremont then defeated Bowling Green's Ayumi Sasaki, 6-4, 6-3, in her second match before taking down top-seeded Thisuri Molligoda of Northern Illinois, 6-3, 6-1, to qualify for the Main Draw. The freshman was defeated by Emilee Duong from Illinois, 6-0, 6-3, in her first dual in the Main Draw.
LeComber collected a pair of wins in the Qualifying Draw, first against DePaul's Lenka Antonijevic, 7-6 (8), 6-3, and second versus Stella Cliffe from Eastern Illinois, 6-4, 6-3. LeComber just missed qualifying for the Main Draw, as she was bested by Toledo's Colleen O'Brien in her third match, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Georgie Sanders also competed in singles play, but was knocked out by Guevremont's Main Draw opposition, Duong, 6-1, 6-2 in her first match of the Qualifying Draw.
Sanders and LeComber combined to take on fellow Horizon-League members Imaan Hassim and Sofia Macias of Youngstown State, falling by a final score of 8-2.
The ITA Regional Championships mark the end of fall tournament play for the Flames, who will resume play against Iowa State on Saturday, Feb. 3 for the start of the dual season.
