UIC to Meet with Detroit Mercy Saturday

Flames seek first-ever win over Titans

CHICAGO – The UIC women's soccer team (3-11-0, 1-3-0 HL) makes its way to Detroit, Mich., for its next stop on its four-game road trip to take on Detroit Mercy (3-9-1, 0-4-0 HL) Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT at Titan Field.

The Flames concluded their non-conference schedule on Wednesday (Oct. 4) when they suffered a 4-1 loss at Illinois State. Tamae Douglas netted her second goal of the season while UIC was held to seven shots. Annie DiCanio matched her career high with seven saves as the Redbirds took 26 attempts.

Despite the results for the Flames over the last five games, they have been able to put the ball in the back of the net at least once in each of those contests, adding up to 13 goals on the year. Naomi Rushe has scored a team-best three goals, with Douglas and Rebeca Pallo then scoring two apiece. Olivia Everin (28), Keri Birkenhead (24), Douglas (23) and Emily Valentine (21) own the top shot attempts, contributing to the team's total of 192, while Everin (11) and Douglas (10) are the only two to reach double-digit figures in shots on goal.

DiCanio owns the top minutes (625) in goal this season after getting the start in each of the last three games. She owns a team-best 30 saves and has garnered three shutouts and a 1.58 goals-against-average. Tara Khayam (20) and Kelly Fritz (19) have also added to the team's 69 stops on the year after both playing in four matches.

UIC is on the hunt for its first ever win in the all-time series with the Titans. Two of the three matches in the series went to overtime, including last season's 2-1 decision at home.

Detroit Mercy is coming off a week's rest after last facing Northern Kentucky on Sept. 30, when it dropped a 2-1 decision. The Titans have won just one of their last 10 matches, coming as a 3-0 victory over Eastern Michigan, while they are 0-4-0 in conference play after falling to Milwaukee, IUPUI, Oakland and NKU.

A total of 15 goals have been scored by Detroit Mercy this season with Rachel DeLuca and Rachel Russo netting four apiece, as DeLuca and Suzie Redick have made up the two goals scored in Horizon League action. DeLuca additionally leads the team in points with 13 after adding a team-best five assists. DeLuca has contributed 32 of the Titans' 127 shots and has put 13 on goal.
