DAYTON, Ohio – The UIC women's volleyball team (13-6, 4-2 HL) took a 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 25-20) Conference win at Wright State (8-11, 2-4 HL) on Saturday afternoon.
Kyisha Hunt recorded a career-high 25 kills alongside a season-best .525 attack percentage.
Ali Witt hit a season-high .688 and was error free (11k-0e-16a), and
Alexandria Hicks killed 12 for the Flames offense.
Manuela Conte paced the Flames on defense, digging out a match-high 19.
Carla Salvato added 16 digs, while
Alexandra Drosopoulou chipped in 12. UIC blocked eight as a team, with
Sarah Daneliak and Conte contributing four block assists apiece.
The Flames pulled out to a 7-2 lead in the first, and never dropped the lead through the frame. The Raiders were able to come within one, 19-18, but a kill from Witt and an error from WSU gave UIC room to breathe, 21-18. Following a Flames error, another kill from Witt and a successful attack from Hunt put UIC within two, 23-19. The Raiders offense registered another point, but Hunt struck again to put the Flames at game point, 24-20. WSU would grab one more before a costly error gave UIC the early advantage, 25-21.
The Raiders retaliated at the start of set two, taking a 13-7 lead at the top of the frame. Facing a 17-12 hole, Conte grabbed a pair of kills while Daneliak tacked on one to put the Flames within two, 17-15. Following a Raider timeout, WSU took two of the next three, 19-16, but UIC took the following three to even up the score at 19. The Raiders were able to add only one more before the Flames surged ahead, scoring six-consecutive points to overcome the home team, 25-20. The six-point run included a pair of points from Hunt, as well as a successful attack by Drosopoulou.
Set three was an even match, with neither team leading by more than two until the Raiders were able to pull ahead by three, 20-17. The Flames bridged the gap with a pair of points to make it 20-19, but WSU took four of the next five to take its only win of the afternoon, 25-20.
Trailing 9-6 early in set four, UIC quickly turned the tables, taking eight-straight by way of a trio of kills from Hicks, a pair of kills from Witt, a couple WSU errors and an ace at the hands of Daneliak, 14-9. The Flames extended their lead to nine, 20-11, as the Raiders began working at closing the gap. WSU would only get as close as three, 23-20, before two kills from Hicks wrapped up set four, 25-20, to give UIC the 3-1 match win.
UIC will return home to the Flames Athletic Center next weekend to face Oakland and IUPUI.
