Flames to Take On Oakland

Team Gets Test Against Defending Champions

The UIC swimming and diving team will be back in the pool for their final dual meet of the fall when they travel to the greater Detroit area to take on Oakland Friday afternoon.

The men's and women's teams both defeated Horizon League rival Milwaukee in dual meet action last weekend.  Swimming for the third straight weekend, the squads look to face an even tougher challenge as Oakland, the defending conference champion on both the men's and women's sides, was picked to repeat as champions this season.

Following the meet at Oakland, the Flames will compete in the TYR Invitational at Northwestern next weekend, and then will have a break from competition until January.

Flames to Watch
  • Cydney Liebenberg qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships last week in winning the 1- and 3-meter diving events, and was named Horizon League Female Diver of the Week.
  • Brie Hines is undefeated in the 500 and 1000 yard free in all four meets this season.
  • Lexie Joy was a triple individual winner against Milwaukee.
  • Andrew Lewarchick was a double winner on the diving boards last weekend.
  • Hunter Crook and Tanner Alms captured the top two spots in the 500 and 1000 free against the Panthers.
  • Michael Tegeler won both backstroke races.
Scouting the Golden Grizzlies
  • After a season opening loss at Michigan, Oakland's men have won two straight meets.
  • Oakland's women also fell to the Wolverines, but have won all five of their meets since.
  • Katie Colwell won three events in the Grizzlies' last meet against Toledo and Ball State.
  • The men have not swam since Oct. 27.  Joe Smith swept the diving competitions against Wayne State that day and won Horizon League Male Diver of the Week honors.
