CHICAGO – The UIC women's volleyball team (17-10, 8-6 HL) put a cap on the regular season home slate with a 3-0 (14-25, 23-25, 23-25) loss to Northern Kentucky (11-12, 7-7 HL) Saturday afternoon. The Flames honored seniors
Kyisha Hunt and
Nicole Johnson at the end of the match in recognition of their careers at UIC.
Match Highlights
- Set One: The Flames struggled to get the ball rolling in set one, and eight errors plagued the offense, as UIC fell 25-14 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
- Set Two: The Norse continued to show their strength at the beginning of set two, pulling out to an 11-4 lead at the start.
- Set Two: The Flames began chipping away at the margin, and eventually tied the match at 14 after a six-point streak that saw kills from Manuela Conte and Kyisha Hunt, an ace from Brecken Roe and a block from Ali Witt and Hunt.
- Set Two: UIC was never able to fully overcome NKU, as the Norse took the second set, 25-23. The Flames made it close, coming within one in the final moments, 24-23, but the Norse offense pulled together a successful attack to end it in their favor. Â
- Set Three: Set three started with a 4-1 lead for UIC, but NKU tied it at five, and kept it close from there
- Set Three: The Flames' largest lead from that point was just three, 21-18, but NKU was able to tie it at 23. Following a UIC timeout, the Norse completed the sweep by taking its final two points, 25-23.
Facts and Figures
- Kyisha Hunt led all scoring in the match, notching a match-high 14 kills for the Flames offense. Hunt also assisted in five blocks up at the net.
- Manuela Conte gave another well-rounded effort on both the offense and defense, notching eight kills while adding 10 digs.
- Ali Witt killed seven while adding three block assists.
- Alexandra Drosopoulou led the Flames with a match-best 13 digs, while Carla Salvato dug out eight in the libero position.
- Nicole Johnson grabbed eight digs while assisting on 36 for the offense.
- The Flames were outblocked by the Norse, 10-8, and were also outhit, as the Norse hit .286 as a team with 46 kills while holding UIC to just .138 with 39 successful attacks.
