For the second week in a row a UIC track and field school record has fallen as the teams participated in two competitions over the weekend. There was a small group at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. and another at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational in Bourbonnais, Ill.

At the Meyo Invitational distance runner
Kyle Hauser broke the school record in the mile with a time of 4:09.65, nearly three seconds faster than the previous mark (4:12.28, Joe Marren, '02). Hauser finished 21
st in the crowded field.

"Kyle ran a very patient and tactical race, his training has been going well and he entered the event knowing he was ready to break the record," said head coach
Gabe Rivera. "He had a sound race plan and executed it perfectly."

In field action, junior
Laith Kanan set a personal best with a toss of 16.35m in the weight throw. The Palatine, Ill. native finished 15th overall in a nationally ranked field.Â
Shaun Wollenweber, the reigning Horizon League Men's Field Athlete of the Week, placed eighth with a leap of 14.91m in the triple jump.

At Bourbonnais, the women's 4x4 team of Paige Crawford, Mia Cruz-Bastian, Roma Siddiqui and Sarah Poulos took second place with a mark of 4:06.59. Cruz-Bastian also medaled in the 400m finishing third in a time of 1:00.22, while freshman sprinter Siddiqui ran a personal best (26.85) in the 200m and placed fourth overall.

Heptathlete Ashley Miller captured her first collegiate victory in the 60m hurdles finishing in a time of 9.51.

"I am impressed with how quickly Ashley has progressed this indoor season," said Rivera. Â "She has run faster at each attempt in the hurdles."

On the men's side, high jumper
Josh Williams placed second with a jump of 1.91m after being sidelined the past two weeks with injuries.

The teams return to action for a weekend meet at North Central College in Naperville, Ill.
