ROCHESTER, Mich. – Redshirt sophomore
Manuela Conte collected 37 digs to rewrite the single-match dig record, as The UIC volleyball team (15-10, 8-4 HL) endured another 3-2 (21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18, 12-15) loss Saturday afternoon against Oakland (9-14, 5-7 HL).
Match Highlights
- Set One: Trailing by just one, 10-9, the Flames took over the lead with five straight points, 14-10. The Golden Grizzlies came back within one after four straight of their own, 15-14.
- Set One: The Flames had a three-point advantage, 17-14, when Oakland took six of the next seven points to take over the lead, 20-18. UIC would not be able to muster a comeback, dropping the set by a final tally of 25-21.
- Set Two: UIC built an early 10-5 lead, but three consecutive kills from the Golden Grizzlies put them two away, 10-8. The Flames took the next three to regain control, 13-8.
- Set Two: The Flames were able to keep Oakland at bay, leading from that point to finish with a 25-21 victory.
- Set Three: The third frame was a close back-and-forth battle until the Golden Grizzlies were able to pull ahead by three, 21-18. The Flames were once again unable to overcome the deficit, dropping set three 25-22.
- Set Four: UIC had a comfortable 10-3 lead to start, but Oakland was able to catch up by the 13-point mark. A Flames error on the next play gave the Golden Grizzlies the lead, 14-13.
- Set Four: Tied at 18, the Flames took their last seven points consecutively, silencing the Golden Grizzlies 25-18.
- Set Five: UIC opened the tiebreaker with a 4-1 lead, but the Golden Grizzlies took six straight to take over the lead, 7-4. The Flames were able to tie it at eight, and take over lead 11-10 after back-to-back terminations from Michelle Glover.
- Set Five: Oakland regained the lead 12-11 and never looked back, taking the set 15-12.
Facts & Figures
- For the second-straight match and third time this season, Manuela Conte exceeded 30 digs, finishing the match with 37. The redshirt sophomore solidified her name at the top of the record book after previously tying the record of 35 back on Oct. 7 at Northern Kentucky. The Flames finished the match with a team season-high 103 digs.
- Paola Santiago led the offense with 17 kills, while also tying her personal-best 16 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
- Kiera James put up 15 kills, her eighth-consecutive double-digit kill performance.
- Tatyana Ndekwe matched last night's career-high with 14 kills.
- Clara Lamb ended the match with eight kills, followed by Michelle Glover with six.
- Marija Borcic led with 51 assists and paired it with 11 digs for her 12th double-double this year.
- Carla Salvato was also in the double-digits on defense with 13 digs.
- Lamb and Ali Witt led the way at the net, recording six and five total blocks for the Flames, respectively. Ndekwe contributed four. Â
