YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The UIC volleyball team (16-11, 9-5 HL) snapped a three-match skid on Sunday afternoon with a 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14) win over Youngstown State (7-20, 1-13 HL). The Flames secured their ninth Horizon League victory of the season, eclipsing last year's total of eight. Their nine conference wins are the most since the 2012 Flames won 10.

- Set One: The Flames broke open a 9-9 tie with four-straight points, 13-9, after a kill from Kiera James and three-straight blocks.
- Set One: The Penguins responded with four unanswered points to tie it at 13. Still tied at the 18-point mark, the Flames grabbed three by way of Clara Lamb and Paola Santiago kills and a YSU ball handling error, 22-19.
- Set One: A Youngstown State kill and a UIC error put the Penguins within one, 23-22, but a kill from James and a YSU service error gave the Flames the set, 25-23.
- Set Two: The Flames took an early 9-2 lead to start the second, and led until the Penguins caught up at the 21 mark.
- Set Two: Tied at 23, the Penguins used a kill and a UIC attack error to complete the comeback, 25-23.
- Set Three: The Penguins started set three with a 7-4 lead, but the Flames used a 4-1 run to tie it at eight. Tied at 13, a kill from Marija Borcic and a block from Santiago and Michelle Glover gave the Flames a 15-13 advantage at the media timeout.
- Set Three: Following the media break, Santiago struck with back-to-back kills, 17-13. The Penguins came within two, 19-17 following a 3-0 streak.
- Set Three: Kills from Alexandria Hicks and Emily Kelly put UIC back up by four, 21-17, and the Flames led from there, taking the set 25-20.
- Set Four: The fourth frame started with a commanding 15-7 lead for UIC, and the Penguins would only get as close as six, 17-11, before the set finished firmly in favor of the Flames, 25-14.
Facts & Figures
- Paola Santiago led the Flames on offense with 14 kills. The freshman also put in 14 digs for her 10th double-double of the season and a personal-best three service aces.
- Marija Borcic led the squad in both digs (20) and assists (36) for her 13th double-double of the season.
- Ali Witt (12) and Kiera James (10) also recorded double-digit kill performances for the Flames. Witt was most efficient, hitting .500 on the afternoon.
- Clara Lamb killed nine, while Michelle Glover killed a career-high seven.
- Manuela Conte tallied 19 digs, and nine assists. Velina Minkova added 10 digs for UIC.
- The Flames out-blocked the Penguins 13-10. Glover led the way with six, tying her personal best. Witt and Lamb stopped four apiece.
