@UICWBB Returns to the Road to Face Evansville

Flames will square off with Purple Aces Wednesday night

CHICAGO – The UIC women's basketball team (1-5) is back on the road this week for a pair of games in the Hoosier state, beginning on Wednesday with Evansville (1-5). The Flames and Purple Aces will tip off at 6 p.m. CT inside Evansville's Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Starting Five
  • UIC had three players score in double figures on Saturday against Miami. Tylah Lampley led the way with 15 points, followed by Brittany Byrd with 13 points and Kiarra Thompson with 11. It is the first time the Flames have accomplish such a feat this season.
  • Byrd brought in the team's first double-double on Saturday, adding 10 rebounds to her 13 points.
  • Thompson has appeared in the starting five in the last two games, and put up personal bests on both occasions. Against Eastern Michigan (Nov. 27), Thompson recorded eight rebounds, a new career high. Her 11 points on Saturday were also a new personal best.
  • Junior Tylah Lampley has been UIC's primary contributor off the bench thus far, ranking third on the squad in points (41) and rebounding average (4.5 per game). Lampley is the Flames' most efficient shooter, making 41.7 percent from the field to lead the squad. The junior is also number one in blocks, averaging 1.3 blocks per contest.
  • The Flames rank second in the Horizon League in steals, averaging 8.7 thefts per contest. The Flames have recorded more steals than their opponents on two occasions (Loyola and Miami), and have reached double digits in steals in its last two contests, stealing 11 on Nov. 27 against Eastern Michigan and 14 on Saturday against Miami. UIC's 14 thefts against Miami were a team season high.
Last Time Out
  • The Flames welcomed Miami University to Credit Union 1 Arena on Saturday and came up short, 65-56.
  • The RedHawks poured in nine three pointers, ultimately leading to the Flames' demise.
  • UIC displayed its best shooting in the last three games, making 34.3 percent of all shots. The opposition made 42.6 percent, while also making 45 percent beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.
  • The Flames forced 20 turnovers on the RedHawks and turned it into 21 points. Miami was only able to score 11 off UIC's 14 miscues. The Flames stole a season-high 14 from the RedHawks.
  • The Flames were also stronger in the paint, outscoring Miami 40-22. UIC netted 15 second chance points to the RedHawks' six, and the Flames bench also outscored Miami's 15-13.
Evaluating Evansville
  • Evansville mirrors UIC's 1-5 record, and are looking to snap a four-game skid. The Purple Aces were handed an 85-63 loss on Sunday (Dec. 2) at Morehead State.
  • Kerri Gasper leads the way for Evansville's offense, leading the squad in scoring average (12.5 points per game) and rebounds (7.2 per game).
  • The Purple Aces are shooting a dangerous 32.9 percent beyond the arc, anchored by Tayzha Buck (46.2 percent) and Marley Miller's (43.5 percent) efforts.
  • The Purple Aces average 4.5 blocks per game, most of which is done by Kaylan Coffman, who is responsible for 17 of their 27 stops so far.
  • Last season the Flames and Purple Aces met up in Chicago, ending in a 96-77 victory for UIC. The Flames' 96 points was their highest total against a Division I opponent since defeating Eastern Michigan 93-91 in the 2014 Women's Basketball Invitational.
What's at Stake
With a win, UIC would:
  • Win its second game of the season
  • Win its second-straight game against Miami
  • Snap a five-game losing streak
