Flames Drop Dual Opener, 6-1, against Iowa State

Melika LeBlanc owns sole point for UIC

CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (0-1) dropped a 6-1 decision on Saturday morning to Iowa State (3-0) at XS Tennis. Melika LeBlanc was responsible for the Flames sole point with her singles victory in the No. 4 spot.

Doubles Highlights
  • Stefana Vasic and Viktoria Seifert got things started for the Flames in the third position, but were unable to put up a point against Iowa State's Erin Freeman and Annabella BonaDonna, 6-0.
  • Georgie Sanders and Lejla Colic had the only doubles win for UIC, taking down Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova, 6-1.
  • Melika LeBlanc and Rachel Le Comber were unable to hold off Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola, 6-3, securing the doubles point for Iowa State.
Singles Highlights
  • Lejla Colic broke open singles play in the No. 2 spot, falling to Regina Espindola in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
  • Amelia Guevremont took on Ekaterina Repina in the No. 3 position, and took a 7-5, 6-0 loss.
  • Georgie Sanders competed next in the No. 1 spot, and lost to Maty Cancini, 6-3, 7-5, securing the win for Iowa State.
  • Miranda Rodriguez was bested by Margarita Timakoa in the No. 6 position, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
  • Melika LeBlanc was the only Flame victorious in singles play, defeating Erin Freeman 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the No. 4 spot.
  • Rachel Le Comber took the first set from the No. 5 position, but ultimately fell to Annabella Bonadonna, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
