TOLEDO, Ohio – The UIC women's tennis team (5-5) wrapped up three matches in three days with a 6-1 loss to Toledo (10-3) on Saturday afternoon at Twos Athletic Club. The Rockets swept the Flames in doubles to take the doubles point, but the Flames fought hard in singles, forcing a third set in all matches that resulted in Toledo points.
Doubles Highlights
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber were shutout by Toledo's Colleen O'Brien and Deedee Leenabanchong in No. 2 doubles, 6-0.
Viktoria Seifert and
Stefana Vasic faced the same fate, falling 6-0 to Megan Miller and Thalita Rodrigues from the No. 3 position. The No. 1 doubles match between
Georgie Sanders/
Lejla Colic and Sidnay Huck/Kokoro Chishaki went unfinished.
Singles Highlights
Viktoria Seifert earned the sole point for the Flames after taking a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win from the No. 6 spot. Leenabanchong bested Colic at No. 1, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and Sanders had a nearly identical score in the No. 2 position in her loss against O'brien, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
Toledo's Chishaki had a comeback win against Guevremont at No. 3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 match,
Melika LeBlanc dropped her first set, 6-3, but came back to tie it in the second, 6-4, before dropping the tiebreaker, 6-3. Le Comber kept things close with Rodrigues all match, but the match ultimately fell Toledo's way, 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 at No. 5.
