ROCHESTER, Mich. – The UIC women's tennis team (6-5, 1-0 HL) made its Horizon League debut on Saturday, taking a 4-3 win over Oakland (6-8, 0-1 HL). The Flames started strong, grabbing the doubles point before taking three more points in singles play for the victory. All three singles points were won in straight sets, and the Flames forced a third set in two out of the three points that went in Oakland's direction.
Doubles Highlights
Lejla Colic and
Georgie Sanders got back to their winning ways in the No. 1 spot, taking down Sofia Borcuti and Amanda Nilsson, 6-1.
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber took the No. 2 match versus Darya Mattseva and Alexandra Whall by the same score, 6-1, giving UIC the doubles point.
Viktoria Seifert and
Stefana Vasic fell in the No. 3 march to Dasha Artamonova and Allison Motea.
Singles Highlights
Le Comber made it 2-0 Flames with a straight set victory at No. 5, 6-2, 6-0. LeBlanc recorded the third point for UIC at No 4 with a straight-set victory of her own, 6-4, 6-4. Oakland's Artamonova bested
Georgie Sanders at No. 2 to get Oakland on the board, 6-1, 6-4.
Amelia Guevremont won it for the Flames, taking down Motea in straight-sets in the No. 3 position, 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 6, Vasic endured three sets with Nilsson and fell 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
Lejla Colic also forced three sets with Mattseva and ultimately lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the No. 1 position.
