NILES, Ohio – UIC was strong on the mound once again, but the offense did not deliver enough support as the Flames fell to Youngstown State in the first game of a three-game series Friday afternoon, 3-1.
Â
How It Happened
Ryan Campbell started on the mound for the Flames (15-8, 4-3 Horizon League) and allowed two runs, scattering seven hits over five innings, however he walked five batters and was forced out after 5.0 innings of work.
Â
UIC collected seven hits with
Thomas Norton leading the way with two knocks. Designated hitter
Riley Hebert scored the lone run for the Flames. He led off the top of the fourth with a base hit and came around to score two batters later on a groundout from first baseman
Bowen Ogata.
Â
Hebert's run tied the game, but the Penguins (6-17, 4-3 Horizon League) pushed across what would be the game-winning tally in the bottom of the frame. Cody Dennis doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nick Massey.
