WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The UIC women's tennis team (15-6, 9-1 HL) secured its first bid to the Horizon League Women's Tennis Championships since 2013 on Saturday morning with a 4-1 win against No. 4 Wright State (19-13, 7-2 HL). The No. 1 Flames broke a 1-1 tie with three-straight singles victories to finish the Raiders.
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
Viktoria Seifert and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon were defeating 6-3 by Wright State's Madison Riley and Jillian Milano at No. 3, but
Georgie Sanders and
Lejla Colic took down Karoline Haller and Haily Morgan by the same score, 6-3, at No. 1 to make the No. 2 match the deciding factor.
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber fought with Luisa Pelayo and Grace Whitney, but landed on top 7-5 to give the Flames the 1-0 advantage.
SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS
Pelayo defeated LeBlanc 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 to even the score at 1-1, but the Flames would take the next three matches to earn the victory.
Bianca Zuzu took Whitney in straight sets at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4 and Seifert followed suit with her 13th-straight win in singles, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. Colic endured three sets with Haller to clinch the win for UIC, winning the last two sets after dropping the first, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1. The No. 2 match featuring Sanders/ Morgan was 7-5, 5-2 in favor of Sanders before going unfinished, and the No. 4 match between Le Comber/Riley had Le Comber up 7-5, 5-3 before it also went unfinished.

The Flames will face the winner of the semifinal match between No. 2 Youngstown State and No. 3 Cleveland State tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT in the Championship.
