CHICAGO – The UIC women's tennis team (9-6) played its final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, securing a 6-1 win over former Horizon League-member Valparaiso (5-9). The Flames soundly defeated the Crusaders, taking the doubles point and five singles matches, four of which came by way of straight sets.
Doubles Highlights
Georgie Sanders and
Viktoria Seifert toppled Meg Modesto and Randi Wind at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, but
Bianca Zuzu and
Miranda Rodriguez Diaz de Leon fell by the same score to Dao Sysouvanh and Jordan Kopfer at No. 3, forcing the No. 1 match to serve as a tiebreaker.
Melika LeBlanc and
Rachel Le Comber secured a 6-4 win over Claire Czerwonka and Jelena Vujanic to land the doubles point on UIC's side.
Singles Highlights
Sanders and Czerwonka met at No. 1 singles, with the matching going to Sanders by retirement. Le Comber defeated Modesto at No. 4 to extend her singles winning streak to five, 6-1, 6-1, putting UIC ahead by three, and LeBlanc brought down Modesto at No. 3, 6-0, 6-1 to allow the Flames to take the win. Vujanic recorded the sole point of the day for the Crusaders, besting
Amelia Guevremont at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1. Seifert won her second-straight match form the No. 5 spot with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Wind. Zuzu also won her second-consecutive singles match, from No. 6, as she took down Kopfer 6-1, 6-1 in the second meeting of the day for the two players.
