Flames Defeat Raiders 2-1 in Walk off Style

Skylee James’s seventh-inning heroics lifts Flames past Wright State

CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (31-18) walked off to a 2-1 victory over Wright State (20-31) on Thursday afternoon in second round of the Horizon League Championship. Skylee James broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run out of the park to lead off the seventh and lift the Flames past the Raiders.

Game Highlights
  • The Raiders tallied back-to-back hits with one out in the top of the third, and a fly out allowed the runner at second to tag up and take third. An error in an attempted pick off at first allowed her to score, 1-0.
  • Kayla Wedl led off the bottom of the fourth with a double, and two batters later Tiana Mack-Miller doubled again, bringing Wedl around to score and tie the game at one.
  • James brought the game to a dramatic end in the bottom of the seventh, leading off UIC's final at bat with a solo shot over the left-center fence, giving the Flames the walk-off victory.
Facts & Figures
  • Allie Trudeau took to the circle for the Flames, giving up just five hits in her 11th complete game this season. The sophomore struck out eight, just one mark shy of her career best.
  • Wedl finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Mack-Miller also recorded a double, while Cassie Kaelber singled. James's sixth homer of the season was her lone hit of the day.
