CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (8-6, 1-0 HL) opened Horizon League action with a win on Friday, taking down IUPUI (3-12, 0-1 HL) by a final tally of 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 28-26, 25-16). The Flames rallied after dropping set one to take the next three in route to a 1-0 start in conference play.

  • Set One: The closest the Flames would get was four, 23-19, but two kills from the Jags finished UIC, 25-20.
  • Set Two: Three straight terminations gave the Jags an 11-9 advantage, as the Flames were called back to the bench.
  • Set Two: Trailing by three, the Flames tacked on five straight to switch the lead in their favor, 15-13. Manuela Conte and Ali Witt contributed a kill each in the streak, while Witt and Santiago put up blocks to go with an IUPUI error.
  • Set Two: Leading by just one, kills from Witt and Conte put the Flames close, 22-19, and a block from Tatyana Ndekwe ended the set 25-22 in favor of UIC
  • Set Three: The Flames trailed by four, 19-15, but were able to come within one after kills from Conte, Clara Lamb as well as an ace at the hands of Carla Salvato, 19-18.
  • Set Three: UIC took over the lead 22-21 after three straight kills, but the Jags answered with two kills of their own to reclaim the lead, 23-22.
  • Set Three: An IUPUI service error and a kill from each team dead locked the set at 24, and the two teams would tie again at both the 25 and 26 marks until kills from Conte and Lamb allowed the Flames to pull off the comeback victory, 28-26.
  • Set Four: The Flames jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the fourth frame, and never looked back, tallying 14 kills to the Jags' seven, to take set four 25-16.
