HOW IT HAPPENED
- UIC had its two-match shutout streak come to an end in just the second minute of play as Haley Johnson took a feed from Gaby Zabala to give Milwaukee the 1-0 lead.
- Possession went back and forth with two shots taken by the Panthers over the next 10 minutes before they converted again in the 14th minute when Gaby Schwartz played a long ball near midfield that reached McKaela Schmelzer in the box to head the ball in the net to go up 2-0.
- The Flames picked up control of the ball and were able to attempt two shots before a foul in the 33rd minute positioned them with a set piece at the top of the box at the 22 yard mark. With Kavanaugh on the ball, she hooked the free kick into the right corner of the net to narrow Milwaukee's lead to 2-1.
- With under a minute remaining in the first half, the Panthers were awarded a corner kick. Erin Corrigan sent the ball in and had it connect with the head of Haley Steel to take a 3-1 advantage into the break.
- It was a repeat situation for Milwaukee coming out of the half in the 47th minute as Corrigan sent in another corner kick that met with the head of Schmelzer to sit on top 4-1.
- After Kavanaugh had a look blocked, she and Pallo had the best attempts of the half for UIC in the 61st minute but both shots were saved. Those shots would be the only ones taken the remainder of the match by the Flames.
- Following their final goal, the Panthers attempted 11 more shots in the half and put five on goal, while a shot in the 66th minute nearly went in after hitting off the crossbar and another was disallowed more than 10 minutes later when offsides was called.
