Flames Put Away Panthers, 3-0

UIC secures sixth sweep

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The UIC volleyball team (9-7, 2-1 HL) took care of Horizon League foe Milwaukee (2-14, 1-2 HL) on Friday night, sweeping the Panthers 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-21). The sweep was the Flames' sixth of the season.

Match Highlights
  • Set One: The Flames were left to play catch up after an early 4-1 lead for Milwaukee, but the set was tied at 14 after a 3-1 streak for UIC that featured kills from Alexandria Hicks and Tatyana Ndekwe.
  • Set One: Tied at 16, the Flames took seven of the next 10 points scored for a 23-19 lead, but the Panthers threatened, taking four of the next five, 24-23. Following a UIC timeout, another Hicks kill put the Panthers to bed, 25-23.
  • Set Two: Set two was a close battle, with neither team leading by more than a pair until the Flames took advantage of a Manuela Conte kill and a pair of Milwaukee errors for a 21-17 lead.
  • Set Two: The Panthers would only chip in two more, as the Flames used another 3-0 streak to finish out set two with a 25-19 victory.
  • Set Three: UIC had a commanding 20-14 lead in set three, but the Panthers took six of seven to close the gap to just one, 21-20. Following a timeout, the Flames struck back and took three straight by way of a pair of kills and a Conte service ace, bringing them to match point 24-20.
  • Set Three: A Panther block gave Milwaukee one more, 24-21, but Clara Lamb buried a feed to bury the Panthers, 25-21.
Facts & Figures
  • Kiera James led the Flames with a match-high 11 kills on offense.
  • Alexandria Hicks finished the night hitting .429 with eight kills. Clara Lamb hit .316, also registering eight kills.
  • Manuela Conte paced the Flames defense with 18 kills. The redshirt sophomore also put in six kills offense.
  • Carla Salvato dug out eight to go with two service aces.
  • Marija Borcic led with 21 assists, while also contributing seven digs.
  • The Flames out blocked the Panthers 10-6, led by Ndekwe's six rejections. Conte blocked five, while Ali Witt stopped four.
