After taking the team title and finishing a rare 1-through-6 sweep on the balance beam in last week's quad meet, UIC will take its momentum on the road for a dual meet with Bowling Green Saturday.
The Flames' team score of 194.200 was nearly three full points better than second place Kent State, and easily outdistanced Centenary and Wisconsin-Oshkosh, in the team's home opener on Sunday. Though the team cleared the 194 point mark in their final six meets of last season, they did not achieve that score for the first time until the fifth meet. No Flames squad has scored as high by the season's second meet since 2003.
The teams last competed on the same floor in a 2014 quad meet at Navy Pier. Bowling Green bested the Flames that day, 194.325-191.150.
Through the Rotations
- Kayla Baddeley had this week's MIC Performance of the Week with her career best 9.850 on beam. That ties her with Alisa Sheremeta for the top mark by any Flame this season.
- Sheremeta and Mikailla Northern each have two scores of 9.825 or higher on floor in the season's two meets.
- Riley Mahoney is just behind Baddeley on the team's vault list.
- Toni Alicke is the only Flame other than Northern to average higher than 9.6 on bars.
Last Time Out
- Baddeley took first, followed by Dani Maciel, Northern, Jenna Squillo, Mahoney, and Sheremeta, on beam as the Flames swept the top six spots in a quad meet for the first time in memory.
- UIC also took the top three spots (Northern, Alicke, Sabrina Tomassini) on bars and the top four (Sheremeta, Northern, Ashley Albrecht, Baddeley) on floor.
- Northern won the all-around, with Baddeley right behind.
Scouting the Falcons
- Bowling Green placed fourth in a high-powered quad meet with Alabama, Denver, and Michigan to open their season.
- Four different gymnasts led the Falcons on each of the four apparatuses. Elena Lawson's 9.800 on vault was their highest individual score of the meet. It was also a new career high.
- Jovannah East was among Bowling Green's top scorers on floor, vault, and beam.
