Flames Top Green Bay on Senior Day

Men and Women Outswim Phoenix; Conference Meet Awaits

UIC closed out the regular season with men's and women's dual meet wins over Green Bay at UIC Natatorium Saturday afternoon.  Following a Senior Day ceremony honoring the team's seniors competing for the last time in their home pool, each team turned in a well-rounded effort to defeat their rivals from the north.

Swimming Highlights – Men
  • Hunter Crook continued to flex his muscles in the distance freestyle events.  He won the 1000 free (9:35.93) and the 500 free (4:36.74).  Jacob Cunningham was fourth in the 1000.
  • Michael Tegeler was the winner in the 200 free and the 200 back.
  • Milosch won the 100 back in :51.54.
  • Danny Sivak took second in the 100 breast and third in the 200.
  • Luke Hutchinson won the 200 fly in 1:50.79.  Gabby Sasia took second.
  • Connor Homans led the team in the 50 free with a second place finish, leading Eric Weng and Ethan Lee to the finish.  Weng, Cunningham, and Homans were all in the top four in the 100.
  • Kyle Lewarchick used a big comeback in the freestyle leg to win the 200 IM over Sivak.
Swimming Highlights – Women
  • Christina Neri picked up another win in the 1000 free.  She had a very comfortable win in 10:26.51.  Later, she swam to victory in the 500, but by just 0.38 seconds.
  • Lexie Joy swam to her familiar top finishes in the 200 and 100 free.  She capped her regular season with a time of 1:51.54 in the 200, and :51.63 in the 100.  Misha Neal, Maddie Hammer, and Morgan Bosse finished third through fifth in the 200.
  • Joy won the 200 IM as well.
  • Hannah Olsen had the team's best time in the 100 back, :59.54.  She won the 200 back in 2:06.33.
  • Becca Ballo and Jessica Amyette gave the Flames a 2-3 finish in the 100 breast and the 200 breast.  Flames were also bunched together in the 50 free, as Beth Kelzer, Lauren Johnson, and Misha Neal were 2-3-4.
  • Annette Lesnicki was second in the 100 fly, four hundredths ahead of Mariah Clemons in third.
Diving Highlights – Men
  • Felix LaFortune won the 1-meter event with a season high 310.88.
  • Andrew Lewarchick was close behind in second, scoring a season high of his own at 301.88.
  • Both divers passed the NCAA Zone qualification standard.
  • Later, LaFortune set another career high, winning the 3-meter competition with a score of 353.85.
  • Lewarchick in second (324.3) and Ryan Murphy in third (299.78) also set season highs in the event.
Diving Highlights – Women
  • Cydney Liebenberg scored 305.1 to win the 3-meter competition.
  • Kallie Zuidema (261.53) and Natalie Williams (212.63) combined to complete a Flames sweep of the top three spots.
  • Liebenberg went on to sweep the field, winning on the 1-meter board with a 286.8.
  • Williams was second with 218.4, her best score of the year.
Relay Highlights – Men
  • Mitch Milosch, Danny Sivak, Gabby Sasia, and Connor Homans were edged by seven hundredths in the 200 medley relay.  They finished in 1:32.69.
  • Homans, Milosch, Tegeler, and Weng took victory in the 400 free relay to close the meet.
Relay Highlights – Women
  • Hannah Olsen, Becca Ballo, Mariah Clemons, and Lauren Johnson were a first-time combination in the 200 medley relay.  They took second in 1:49.35.
  • The women held off the Phoenix by a mere two hundredths in the 400 free relay.  Johnson, Kelzer, Scovill, and Joy won the race to ensure the team victory.
Up Next
  • The diving squad will host the UIC Diving Invitational on Saturday, February 2.
  • The meet will start at 11 am at UIC Natatorium.
  • The swim team will prepare for the Horizon League championships, beginning February 13 in Indianapolis.
