UIC posted another score over 195 and set a season high for the fourth straight week, and took first place in a tri-meet at Northern Illinois with Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon.
Toni Alicke's career high 9.900 on bars in the final rotation led the charge in which the team fended off NIU to clinch the meet.
"Another win into the books this year, and another 195.2. It was something very, very exciting the way they came out," co-head coach
Peter Jansson said. "They had to fight back from some early mistakes on beam and in the end they had to close the door on Northern, who was on floor while we were on bars. An early mistake in the bars lineup really made the rest of the girls show up under pressure, which they did. They looked fantastic. We stuck five out of six dismounts in the last bar rotation."
UIC was holding on to a 0.725 point lead after three rotations. In the fourth rotation, Northern Illinois had two 9.9's on floor and scored 49.375 points, but the Flames rebounded from a 9.150 in the second position to score 49.100 and clinch the meet with a grand total of 195.250. The Huskies scored 194.800, and Bowling Green, who the Flames beat in a dual meet last week, scored 193.950.
"These guys are amazing and just keep rolling along," Jansson continued. "We can't wait to be home again next week!"
