Flames Look to Stay Hot Against IUPUI

Unprecedented Fourth Straight Win On The Line

UIC will go for its fourth straight win against IUPUI Wednesday night.  It would be the longest winning streak in program history.  A win would also give UIC a 3-0 record to begin Horizon League play, extending the best start the team has ever had.

At 6-3-1 overall, the Flames have the best record relative to .500 at any point in the program's five-plus years.  They are one win shy of the most in a season.  Remarkably, all seven of the team's results have come via shutout.  Lena Kurz has six of them – the 16th best total in the country – and Annika Laihanen has chipped in one.

The team's overall goals-against average of 0.39 is the 11th best mark in the nation, and it has come from a total team effort.  Tamae Douglas is the current Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week.  She has been the heart and soul of a back line that has allowed only four goals, and a mere 39 shots on goal, the whole season.

Kickoff from Indianapolis is at 6 pm.  The match will air on ESPN3.

Last Time Out
  • The Flames defeated Northern Kentucky, 1-0 on Saturday.
  • Emma Main scored the goal, heading in a beautiful cross from Emily Kavanaugh.
  • It was the first win over NKU in program history.
  • Lena Kurz stood tall in goal to record the shutout. She made three saves, including a penalty kick. It was the team's third straight clean sheet, and Kurz' sixth.
Flames to Watch
  • Kurz is second in the conference in save percentage and first in goals-against average.
  • Main leads UIC with three goals, all of which have been game-winning strikes.
  • Kavanaugh had a brace against Valparaiso last week, and leads the team with six points.
Scouting the Jaguars
  • Following a 3-0 win over Youngstown State, IUPUI is 7-3-1 overall and 1-1 in Horizon League play.
  • Three different players scored against the Penguins, including Elizabeth Bueckers, who is tied for the team lead with four goals.
  • Valentine Pursey has a team high 11 points. She and Maya Lacognato are both in the league's top four in shots on goal.
  • AP Woodall leads the conference in save percentage, and is behind only Lena Kurz in goals-against average.
