CHICAGO – The UIC volleyball team (18-6, 7-3 HL) extended its win streak to six matches on Saturday with its second sweep of the weekend, defeating Youngstown State (8-15, 2-8 HL) by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19). The win ties last year's win total of 18, marking the squads most wins in a season since 2012.
The Flames also honored seniors
Manuela Conte,
Tatyana Ndekwe and
Brookah Palmer following the match, in recognition for their respective UIC careers.
Match Highlights
Set One
- Back-and-forth four-point runs started the opening set, resulting in an 8-4 lead for UIC.
- The Penguins took over the lead after a later four-point streak, 10-9.
- Tied at 17, UIC took five consecutively off kills from Michelle Glover, Tatyana Ndekwe and a pair of YSU miscues, 23-17.
- Terminations from Kiera James and Brookah Palmer ended the set with a win for UIC, 25-19.
Set Two
- UIC got another early lead in set two, 10-4.
- The Penguins later pulled within one, 17-16, forcing UIC to call timeout.
- Youngstown State would only get down one more kill before the Flames ran away with the set, 25-17.
- UIC ended set two on a 7-0 run that saw terminations from Glover, James and Alexandria Hicks.
Set Three
- UIC carried its late dominance in set two into the early stages of set three, doubling up on the Penguins, 18-9.
- Youngstown State fought its way back within four, 22-18, after a late offensive spark.
- UIC took three of the final four points off a YSU ball handling error, a block from James and Ndekwe and a kill from Hicks to end set, 25-19.

- The Flames have won their last nine sets consecutively, dating back to their 3-1 win over IUPUI on Oct. 19.
- UIC's sweep was its 10th of the season. The Flames have taken most of their wins this year by way of the sweep, owning five wins in four set matches and three wins in five set matches.
- Tatyana Ndekwe led the offense on her own senior night, tallying 10 kills and making just one error, hitting a career-high .750 on the night.
- Michelle Glover ended the day with nine kills, hitting .400 for the Flames.
- Clara Lamb and Kiera James followed with six kills apiece.
- Lauren Musante collected her sixth double-double of the season, handing out 18 assists to go with a team-high 15 digs.
- Velina Minkova and Brookah Palmer finished with 10 digs apiece. Manuela Conte dug out eight.
- Marija Borcic assisted on 17 and also got down four service aces to match her personal best.
- The Flames put down 41 kills to Youngstown State's 34. The Flames also tallied more digs, 61-53, as well as blocks, 4-2.
